This section is concerned with the genealogy of LOCK and
especially those originating in Tanfield, County Durham around 1800. A couple of the
family emigrated to America but a large proportion of them remained in County Durham as
coal miners. By 1901 they were well dispersed throughout the County.
 
A lot of the US information has been copied from Dianne Underwood's numerous
web postings. It took quite a while before I could prove to myself how all the Locks born in Durham in the 1800s
were linked. Thanks also go to my cousin Lynda, who has tirelessly looked up vague references that I gave her,
in Durham Records Office.
